The digital revolution has offered people like myself the ability to make films without requiring a vast amount of large equipment and having to use a huge team of people to craft work. Therefore I can capture content with the minimum of fuss or disruption and edit this content using technology that allows me to have complete creative control of the whole filmmaking process. I film and edit all my own work. I am a one man band. I am a completely independent filmmaker.
I have always admired the documentary form and began my visual life as a social documentary photographer. My films consist of people, places and moments that I feel are culturally significant.
I was born and live in the great city of HULL in the UK and I am constantly inspired by the decisive moments that occur in my hometown. I think I live in a very filmic city and the people within my city are constantly creating moments that are worth documenting. I don't JUST make films that relate to HULL but the stories that reverberate in and around the People's Republic of East Yorkshire are always a big source of creative inspiration.
I am intrigued by the documentary form and its ability to present surprising narratives that are interesting, evocative, and significant. Too much media presents our world as grotesque and I hope my films offer the viewer some human sunshine. My aim is to make the viewer feel that their world, for all its flaws, is still a place of wonder and possibility.
